1. What is ENoLL?

The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) is a community of Living Labs with a sustainable strategy for enhancing innovation on a systematic basis. The overall objective is to contribute to the creation of a dynamic European innovation system. ENoLL aims to support co-creative, human-centric and user-driven research, development and innovation in order to better cater for people’s needs.

2. Who can become a member?

Anyone can join the Community and the Association.

• If you support the philosophy and are an end-user (individual citizen) you may consider joining the site-specific end-user community.
• If you represent a private company, university, research department, regional authority or other government organisation, you may contact us for a discussion on how to join as a Living Lab partner with the objective to become sustainably engaged in its development and operations.
• If your Living Lab wants to become a member of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) please contact us.

3. How to become a member of the network?

Founded in November 2006 under the auspices of the Finnish European Presidency, the network has grown in ‘waves’ up to almost 250 member Living Labs.

To this date, 4 Waves have been launched, resulting in over 250 accepted Living Labs. The last Wave was closed end of January 2010, the resulting new members were presented on April 6th, 2010.

4. What is the ENoLL aisbl Profile

Since the first workshop on the European Network of Living Labs-governance took place in Brussels in October 2007, one need emerged as the main result: an ENoLL Association should be founded, financed from membership fees, offering networking services and platforms for internal and external cooperation and policy making.

In February 2010, this new ENoLL association has become a reality as ENoLL has become a legal entity by establishing an International Non-Profit Association under Belgian Law. The ENoLL aisbl is a horizontal organization, whose mission is to support the evolution and the wide uptake of the Living Lab paradigms throughout Europe.

5. What is the structure of ENoLL aisbl?

The association adopts an open structure, with a core of fee-paying members and partners supplemented by more informal networks of policy-makers and individual users/enthusiasts.

The association comprises effective members, adherent members and associated members as follows:

• effective members: organizations which are legal entities that represent a Living Lab which was duly selected according to the ENoLL selection process and that pay the annual membership fee, 5000€ in the year 2010.
• associated members: organizations which are involved in the object and activities of the association, which are not selected according to the ENoLL selections process and which pay the annual membership, 5000€ in the year 2010.
• adherent members: organizations that represent a Living Lab, which was duly selected according to the ENoLL selection process, which do not pay membership, and have no voting rights.

The association is managed by a Council appointed by the General Assembly. Only the effective members can vote at the General Assembly, while each type of member can take part and be a candidate of the Council with certain restrictions.

The General Assembly has all powers allowing the realization of the objects as well as of the activities of the association. All members, effective, associated and adherent are invited to attend the Assembly. 

6. Do ENoLL members have to contribute financially?

If you want to become a effective member or an associated (see higher): yes, you have to pay a membership fee. For 2011, it is set for 5.000 €.

If you want to become an adherent member (see higher): no, you don’t have to pay a membership fee, but there is administrative fee of 500 € for all adherent members since 2011 was introduced by the ENoLL General Assembly.
