To date we have focused on three key areas:
These remain important to us, but as we look to the future we are focusing on:
Description
The Digital Region project will provide superfast broadband (FTTK) to 97% of SouthYorkshire by 2012. This creates the opportunity for a literal living laboratory, a placewhere applications and solutions can be real-life tested at a large scale and across awide demographic.
This will only be fully effective if the vast majority of our population are active digitalcitizens, and so we continue to drive our Making IT Personal digital inclusion programme, reinforced by the UK national Go On campaign to get millions more people online by2012.
We are also planning the steps which will capitalise on the potential of that advancedconnectivity, by building data centre capacity to provide the infrastructure for the shift tocloud and software as a service. This will be accompanied by measures to furtherstrengthen the already close links between public service providers, universities, SMEsand professional service companies, to develop innovative solutions and a surge in theknowledge economy.
