The ICT Roadmap for Energy-Efficient Neighbourhoods

IREEN, “The ICT Roadmap for Energy-Efficient Neighbourhoods”  is a European Commission supported “Coordination Action”, promoting the networking and coordination of research and innovation activities in Europe.

IREEN will examine how technology can be used for energy efficiency and improved performance in neighbourhoods.

The project will develop a roadmap for ICT-enabled energy efficient neighbourhoods, taking into account buildings, transport, energy production and distribution.

ENoLL new Thematic Domain Networks created in the scope of the APOLLON project

On behalf of ENoLL and the APOLLON project I would like to invite your Living Lab to be part of ENoLL new Thematic Domain Networks created in the scope of the APOLLON project.

APOLLON (Advanced Pilots of Living Labs Operating in Networks) is a CIP project that has focused in enhancing cross-border collaboration between Living Labs and SMEs in Europe. As a final result of the project, several Thematic Domain Networks will be launched, under the umbrella of ENoLL.

Call for Papers: User Innovation and the Role of Creative Consumers

User innovation happens when innovation is undertaken by end users, both firms and creative consumers. In this special issue, we focus on the role of creative consumers, who are any “individual or group who adapts, modifies, or transforms a proprietary offering, such as a product or service” (Berthon et al. 2007, p.40). Thus, creative consumers are a category of inventive individuals that includes ‘lead users’, ‘hackers’, ‘pirates’, ‘user designers’, ‘phreakers’, and ‘jail breakers’.

Smart Cities as Innovation Ecosystems

The focus in this 'White Paper on Smart Cities as Innovation Ecosystems' is in the challenge of how to redefine the Smart City as an environment of innovation, empowerment and participation of citizens, businesses and other stakeholders in shaping their future, through the choices they have and decisions they make.

InnoMatNet project launched

InnoMatNet is a new project funded under the NMP (Nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials and new production technologies) theme of the EC 7th Framework Programme.

InnoMatNet aims to advance the goal of an innovation society by developing a flexible approach that establishes teams of innovators, which link materials labs with industry (particularly the creative industry), as well as other innovation actors, providing support to help them bring new products and processes to market.

UNECE Conference on Building Strategies for Regions of Innovation - Living Labs as Drivers for Regional Innovation

The President of the European Network of Living Labs, Prof. Alvaro Oliveira has been invited as a speaker on Living Labs as Drivers of Regional Innovation and Cross-border collaboration at the Policies for Innovation and Knowledge-based Development in the 21st Century, Building Strategies for Regions of Innovation, held in Geneva, 12-13 April 2012 organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Economic Cooperation and Integration (UNECE).

Horizon 2020 offers a major shift in European RDI thinking

In an article titled ‘ Getting Competitive’ (Pan European Networks: Science and Technology, March 2012) Seija Kulkki, Professor at the Department of Management and International Business of Aalto University School of Economics, ENoLL Associated member, outlines how Europe can plan to use RDI when tackling the ‘major challenges of our time’.
